About me

Hi! I’m Chengyi Qu, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Missouri - Columbia in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, CERI Center.

My background and history

I plan to finish my Ph.D by the end of 2022. My Ph.D advisor is Dr. Prasad Calyam. I obtained B.E. from Northeastern University, China. Before start my Ph.D, I was a software research volunteer with Dr. Dong Xu in Mizzou, and had an internship at Neusoft Corporation, China. During summer 2022, I also had an internship as a Research Aide in DSL division in Argonne National Lab, supervised by Rajkumar Kettimuthu and Joaquin Chung.

My work and research

My research and development areas of interest include: Edge/Cloud Computing, Drone Video Analytics, Computer Networking, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Advanced Cyber-infrastructure. My research aims to solve multi‑drone communication and computation bottlenecks, propose novel system orchestration approach on various drone swarms scenarios. As of Fall 2022, I have published over 14 peer‑reviewed papers in prestigious conference (e.g., IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE CNSM, ACM ICDCN) and journal venues (e.g., Elsevier FGCS).

I have experience in developing National Science Foundation (NSF) proposals, related to

  • ‘Intelligent Resource Orchestration for Environmental Situational Awareness in Drone Swarm Applications’ (Submitted, NSF CNS),
  • ‘Edge Computing and Network Control for Drone Video Analytics’ (Funded, $15,000, NSF PAWR),
  • ‘Algorithms to Coordinate Autonomous Drones and Robots for Scalable Delivery Systems’ (Under preparation, NSF OE), and
  • ‘UAV swarms in Smart Farming: Autonomous Modeling and Learning-based Orchestration Systems’ (Under preparation, NSF)
